Timber for outdoor sauna

All our outdoor saunas are manufacture from carefully selected wooden boards, that are dried to required humidity level right at our factory in an automated dryers and controlled environment. The timber used for saunas can be from standard option – spruce, larch, thermos-wood, red cedar. However we can offer other exotic timber types – accoya, abachi, ipe and others.

Shell of an outdoor sauna

The structure of the outdoor sauna is made from 45mm calibrated, planed planks. The whole building area can be either one single space or divided into changing room and sauna room. In addition, the shell can be manufactured and divided in such a way that an open terrace area is incorporated in front of the main entrance door. If the interior space is divided, glass sauna door is a default choice for the sauna room entry.
Another option is wooden door. Main entrance door is fully wooden or can have a glass insert. From the outside the structure is painted according your preferences or choosing from RAL color palette. The top part of the outdoor sauna shell is covered with bitumen tiles, that are available in different colors. Main entrance can be either from the end or from the side of the shell.

Outdoor sauna equipment and setup

The interior of the sauna room is paneled with wooden cladding – standard option is linden, aspen or black alder cladding. These options are default for spruce or larch outdoor saunas. From the same timber as cladding we make the benches, removable flooring pads, safety fence around the heater. Thermo-wood or red cedar interior cladding and wooden parts are made from the same timber as the outdoor sauna shell – respectively thermos-wood or red cedar.

All outdoor saunas can be equipped with a wood burning or electric heater. Wood burning heater comes together with an insulated stainless steel chimney and can be equipped with a water tank. Standard wood burning heater brands we equip our outdoor saunas with are Swedish KOTA and HARVIA or Estonian TATPAR. Electric heaters are mainly Swedish HARVIA. However, we can install any preferred heater upon request, for example an electric heater equipped with an LCD control panel or remotely controlled unit.
Other additional equipment options are LED lighting, audio system, panoramic windows.

Maintenance of outdoor saunas

In order to keep the outdoor sauna in a good condition and clean, one is suggested to follow these simple steps:

  • After using the outdoor sauna, ventilate it and mop up any excess water
  • Leave the vents open after finish using the outdoor sauna
  • At least once a year repaint the shell of the outdoor sauna. This will help protect the timber from climate and fungi damage
  • It is recommended to coat the seating areas and removable flooring pads with special sauna products for interior (oils, wax). It keeps these elements in good condition and it is much easier to clean them.
  • Check the tightness belts from time to time. In time, when using the outdoor sauna, the structural timber constantly absorbs water and dries up. This process loosens up the tightness belts, therefore they need to be tightened to keep the shell intact.
  • VERY IMPORTANT. Never leave the sauna without supervision when it is used. Even if there are numerous fireproofing measures in place, the sauna is still wooden.
